Suzi Walsh
Dogs in Distress, Dublin
Suzi is the puppy adoption co-ordinator for Dogs in Distress. In her role with the organisation, she collects puppies from pounds such as Ashton Pound in Dublin and advertises them for adoption through the Dogs in Distress website. Suzi often spends in excess of 40 hours a week organising the pups in the care of Dogs in Distress. In addition to arranging home visits to ensure that all pups go to a suitable home, she assists with the pup adoption paperwork as well as regularly arranging health checks and transportation of the dogs and pups. Suzi’s dedication to the pups at Dogs in Distress is evident in her willingness to compile public information sheets on animal safety, dietary requirements and neutering & spaying, as well as regularly giving of her own time to travel to schools to inform the younger generations about how to care for a pup. Suzi also regularly liases with Dogs Trust UK to assist them in rehoming dogs in the UK that may be overlooked here in Ireland. Suzi’s contribution to Dogs in Distress has helped over 1200 pups in 2008 alone, a figure that she hopes to surpass this year! “You might not be able to change the world for every dog but you might change the whole world of one dog”, says Suzi. “I would like to thank any one that I have cancelled nights out, dates and family occasions for in order to rescue dogs and anyone involved in animal rescue who knows whats its like to have the best day and the worst day all in 24 hours”.

Suzi is a fantastic example of the hundreds of volunteers who give up their time willingly to help animals in this country. Best of luck on Thyrsday Suzi!!
Suzi is a walking living angel. She helps rescue so many abandonded puppies and dogs. She transports dogs all over the country driving miles out of her way to save and rescue pups and dogs in need. Without her so many puppies would not have had a second chance including 2 of my own who Suzi helped rescue driving them all the way from Clare. At that time they were only tiny but now the are all grown up and and are big healthy dogs so thanks Suzi and good luck!!
Congratulations Suzi on your richly deserved nomination. I know I speak for all your colleagues at Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind when I say how proud we are of you and how much we admire your dedication to promoting responsible animal ownership. In your day job as North Dublin Area Puppy Walking Supervisor you empower so many of our own volunteers to help train our puppies to become guide dogs to visually impaired people and assistance dogs for children with autism. The world over animals enrich the lives of some many people, be it as working assistance dogs or as companion animals to the elderly living alone, children in abusive situations or simply as rewarding family pets. Your passion, energy and commitment to animal welfare is an inspiration to so many people whom you have helped in your voluntary work throughout Ireland. Your working life too is all about empowering volunteers to selflessly train dogs to play such a unique role and to change the lives of so many clients of IGDB and their families. I cannot think of anyone who more exemplifies all that is selfless and positive about volunteering, thank you for all you do and long may it continue!
As a foster mum to some of those puppies Suzi holds herself totally responsible for may I just say that without her support and encouragement when my babies are ill and I feel helpless I would have given up fostering shortly after I started.I have been one of those to meet Suzi on a Sunday night in the middle of Dublin when she has arrived back from some part of the country with another load of rescues (27 doggies the last time I was involved).I just want to say how proud I am to be associated with Suzi Walsh and Dogs in Distress and am delighted she has been honoured with this nomination.
The work that Suzi is doing is so amazing. I got a pup from her 3 weeks ago and she is doing great. When I look at the pain and suffering of animals all around the country and so many are being dumped its heart breaking. Suzi had made a difference to dogs and pups. She has saved animals from endless suffering and being put to sleep. Her sheer dedication to this cause has changed this lives of so many animals and given them the chance to experience a loving home. She is a role model to us all.
Suzi does so much amazing work and is such a great volunteer. She spends so much time helping out with all the dogs and we really need to recognise amazing volunteers like her. Good luck Suzi!!
Suzi has worked tirelessly and selflessly not only to save literally thousands of dogs from the pound and improve animal welfare over the last number of years but has also found time to work towards solving the cause of the problem. Suzi has used her experience, enthusiasm, compassion and qualifications to educate children, parents and prospective dog-owners through school talks, home-visits, regular newspaper pieces and even contributions on national radio as part of her volunteer work for dogs in distress. She has become the authority on animal welfare issues in Ireland while continuing to get her hands dirty working on the ground with animals in need. Very best of luck on Thursday- Vote Suzi Walsh #1

Well done Suzi, you deserve this award. The times I have rang you and you were in the country ready to pick up more pups, or check on the ones that are being fostered. That was after completing your weeks work or days work. I wonder are you an insomnia? Ha Ha
No-one deserves this more. Suzi put all her time and energy in to helping dogs and has improved the lives of thousands of dogs and humans alike. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for her
We have known Suzi for two years and are constantly amazed at the lenghts to which she goes for all creatures big and small. Big Hug and Good Luck !!!

I would like to wish suzi the best of luck for this thursday nite, she is an amazing person who gives so much of herself to this worthwhile cause. She is an inspiration to us all. good luck.xxx
I run a small rescue shelter for huskies, based in Sligo. Suzi has been amazing, getting dogs from one side of the country to the other, to safety and a new life. I don’t think that she has a private life, she is always so busy saving the lives of the dogs that she helps through Dogs in Distress and transporting dogs all over the country.
Best of luck Suzi, if anyone deserves this award, its you.
Thanks for everything you’ve done and are doing for dogs in this country.
Wow! Suzi does so much for D.I.D. each year !
She is great
Well done girl…the Animals are proud of you
Suzi is very deserving of this nomination, she could be a blueprint for all volunteers. There is nothing easy about volunteering in Animal Welfare, however, Suzi brings an amazing level of energy and enthusiasm to all tasks, her work rate is incredible, she is always objective, balanced and fair and this shows in the inspirational results she achieves week in – week out. Suzis’ commitment and support has driven me to get more actively involved. The very best of luck on your well deserved nomination
I think Suzi should definitely win this award- she is the best because she has done so much for unhappy dogs. We re-homed a dog from Suzi- She found us the perfect dog- I don’t know how she does it! Good luck on Thursday- VOTE SUZI #1!
Well done for speaking uo for all the dogs that have no voice.
Best wishes from all here.
Congrats on the nomination Suzi, its great that the hard work you’ve done for Dogs in Distress has been recognised
Suzi is the most unselfish person I know – she puts the lives of hundreds of needy and unwanted pups and dog before herself without a second thought. Anyone who has come in contact with her is blown away by her dedication and endless energy. She is a shining example to us all – she is always on hand to offer help and advice. So many pups have been given a second chance due to Suzi. I wish her the best of luck on Thursday – I can’t think of anyone more deserving!
Best of luck Suzie, you do great work & really deserve this award.
None of the words in the english vocabulary seem to be apt, relevant, or strong enough to describe how incredibly valuable Suzi is to the world of dog rescue, welfare, and pet ownership education.
Considering the many, many hours she has selflessly given to help dogs – Considering the massive knowledge she has of dogs, welfare, behaviour, diet, training, grooming, health – Considering the huge difference she has made so far – Suzi should be in her 50s! I often wonder if there are more hours in a ‘Suzi Day’ than there are in everyone else’s days cause she seems to fit 3 days work and effort into each one!!!
You deserve this award Suzi… IrishDogs.ie and Homeward Bound are right behind you!
Congratulations Suzi from all the Equipet staff on your nomination for volunteer of the year and best of luck on Thursday night.
Wishing you the very best of luck on Thursday. Thanks for all the time you have given so willingly to ensuring that all pups that come into the care of DID are homed as soon as possible. If all those puppies could speak they would no doubt be full of praise for you. For the sake of them and all volunteers across ireland, you so deserve to win this award.

Suzi, best of luck on Thursday, well deserved nomination. It is obvious how devoted you are to your passion of not only saving dogs and puppies but to also preventing these problems in the first place. You found us Charlie, the perfect dog, and it’s awful to think what would have happened had you not helped him. Vote Suzi No. 1
I think everyone has outlined everything Suzi does for all the puppies at D.I.D and it is truely appreaciated by all of us and the doglets here at Dogs In Distress. Without people like Suzi, and all the countless volunteers and fosterers with Dogs In Distress it goes without saying alot of doggies wouldn’t have made it to their Forever Homes. Best of luck Suzi!!!!
YOU CAN DO IT!
xxxx
A very well deserved nomination, Best of luck Suzi. From All @ the Lawless house hold Puppies and all.;-)
Very well deserved nomination. Suzi has helped to save so many dogs’ lives and is dedicated to finding the right home for each one.
Suzi’s dedication to the cause of dog and puppy rescue is inspirational. It takes a very special person to persevere with the colossal, voluntary workload that she takes on day after day, month ofter month, year after year. Her determition to help improve the lives of dog’s and puppies is founded in her great love for them. If there were more people like Suzi on this planet the world would be a better place. Well done Suzi on your nomination and thank you for inspiring me to try harder at improving my own small contribution to animal rescue and welfare.
Suzi’s dedication to her work is a wonderful thing. Her love of the dogs she rescues and minds and finds homes for is obvious. She is a model of what voluntary work should be. And if the reaction of our dog any time he sees her is typical, all the troubled dogs she has saved will give her their vote in the Ireland Involved awards, and the judges will do likewise. Well done, Suzi!
I couldn’t be more pleased to be asked to comment on Suzi’s dedication to dogs. She has been so helpful to me with adoptions, both good and bad in the past-way and above the call of duty. I couldn’t have managed without her help. She is a gorgeous girl in every way, and should get this nomination–hands down. Good luck Suzi. Lots of love, Sheila

I have known Suzi since we launched Pet Expo in 2007 and been aware of her excellent work with Dogs in Distress & Dogs Trust. Suzi is a great advocate in promoting responsible dog ownership and working to educate the public & create awareness of the problems that exist in Ireland with the large numbers of dogs being abadoned and also promoting adoption from the rescue centres. I would certainly be delighted to support her nomination as volunteer of the year. Best of luck Suzi from Marie & all at Pet Expo!

As Susie’s aunt you may think I’m a little biased! Since Susie was a child she has shown amazing compassion and love of all animals. She has tirelessly worked for many years to help homeless animals and ensure they are rehomed to a loving family and in turn has brought happiness to so many families, including myself and my husband who have found so much joy from our rescue dog, Annie.
She has inspired so many people to get involved in such a positive cause while educating people at the same time. She is a real inspiration and I am very proud to call her my niece.
Best of Luck, Fingers and Toes crossed.
Fiona, Keith, Ruby & Annie xxxx
I am constantly bowled over by Suzi. She’s an extraordinary young woman who is totally selfless in her dedication to helping unfortunate animals. Despite doing so much and being constantly on the run from crisis to crisis, she’s graceful, ever-smiling and always has time to help or advise on animal care. An amazing person.
